RPB's and John King's tunes I like already. The others are in the "they may grow on me as the season continues pile". There is time. All things are possible. Many years I ended up loving a song which I did not like much upon first hearing it. In other words, I am a believer of giving a song a chance before throwing it to the curb - for the most part. Some songs are bad from the get go - brutal but true .
Sunflower would like to wish all the artists best of luck this crop over season. That also goes to all those new and old souls who bravely put themselves out there to be judged on the merit of their calypsos and their calypso rendering abilities. Remember only some of you will make it to the finals.
Many will enter. Few will be chosen.
It is a mathematical thing. Points are awarded in various categories (melody, rendition, stage performance, etc). You will reach the finals if your scores are higher than those of the calypsonians who don't make it. Yes, math is a brutal decider. And all decisions are final.
I am not sure how I missed this one. A year in advance those Star Trek boys let everyone know to book some important dates in 2009. So when I saw the trailer for G. I. Joe - Rise of the Cobra I could hardly believe my eyes. Was this a secret? Did others know about it and not inform the Sunflower?

(Obviously this is a big budget film. Not every movie gets its own website.) To me, a movie trailer is a delicate beast which should be handled with care. You can't give away too much of the film (well you shouldn't), but you have to tease the audience enough so that they run to the movie theatres to spend their hard earned money to see your work of art. In recent times, studios have been putting out trailers which pretty much showcase the best parts of the film for free. You go to the cinema expecting more, and end up with less as the most exciting bits have been running on TV for about a month prior to the movie's release. So you kinda know them by heart already.
Excuse my rant - back to the trailer.
I think they got the trailer just right. I was shocked, surprised and left wanting. So for the trailer they get an "A". Flashing across my screen I saw Dennis Quaid (good actor), Channing Tatum a.k.a. that dude from the dance flick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt from 3rd Rock from the Sun, and....wait for it....wait for it....Marlon Wayans.
What the bleep!!! Marlon Wayons in a serious role, in an action film not produced by the Wayan Brothers??!! I am shocked (I mentioned this before). So the Wayans baby bro is branching out on his own. Good for him. You go boy!!! In the always relevant words of Jack Sparrow: "I want you to know that I was rooting for you. Know that."
Everyone in the film looks nice and trim and fit. Like they have been working out for the past year and a half with no access to fast food chains and chocolate.
Visit the official site, watch the trailer often and tell me if you are excited to see the film. It comes out August 7, 2009. So save the date.

On the "I can't wait to watch list" the sequels to Iron Man and Transformers are at the top. Coming to a screen near you
Transformers 2, aka Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is set to hit theaters on June 24. Hopefully this means that the cinemas in Barbados will get it on that date also. Luckily for us here in Bim we get movies released around the same time that they are released in the US.
The trailer to Transformers 2 promises an action flick as good as or better than the first. We live in hope. And I am hopeful. There is nothing like seeing Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox get chased by computer generated mega machines which turn into cars, trucks and fighter jets (or, pretty much anything they can get their computer chips to recreate).
And in a galaxy one (1) year away.....Iron Man 2
The release date of Iron Man 2 is May 7, 2010 according to The Internet Movie Database website. Which gives us plenty of time to watch Iron Man 1 repeatedly if so desired. (And we desire, we desire.)
On a less happy note, as most know, Terrence Howard has been replaced by Don Cheadle in the role of Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes. We will miss you Terrance. (Sob, sob sob.) Returning, and hopefully in fine form are Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. Joining them are a whole host of stars including Sam Rockwell (who is always fun to watch), Mickey Rourke (still on the comeback trail), Samuel L. Jackson (I would love to have his agent) and Scarlett Johansson.
Until the release we will have to make do with production shots:
Imagine the workout regime required to fit into the Iron Man costume. You go boy!!!
